Japan - 2007 - Color, 35 mm. 97 min.
In this his first film, photographer Shingo Wakagi, chose to pay a tribute to his grandfather, a well-known manzai actor (a sort of Japanese comedy), and, incidentally, relive his childhood together with his family and friends of that time. To do this, he makes use of the story of a young photographer, Nobuto, who serves as his alter ego, returning to his native village in Hamamatsu to visit his grandfather, a man full of vitality magnificently played by Koishi Kimi. The atmosphere of rural life in the village is depicted in a film that moves between documentary and home cinema, tinged with a feeling of unconcerned happiness and full of little everyday details, including scenes with real friends from the director’s childhood. It is not for nothing that the movie was shot in the house where Wakagi grew up and his grandfather spent his last days. As real as life itself.
