South Korea - 2008 - 35 mm, 130 min.
Having grown up with a violent father whom he held responsible for the death of his mother and the stabbing of his sister, Song-Hoon knows no better than that violence has to precede emotion. That changes when he meets a wayward schoolgirl. Herself the daily victim of the brutality of her father and brother, she is also battered by dysfunctional families and not very impressed by Song-Hoon's hard exterior. Slowly but surely, an alternative family bond develops between the two of them. Yang Ik-june was an actor in many Korean independent movies before deciding to tell his autobiographical experience in celluloid. This extremely raw and hard gangster film is getting acclaim in film festivals all over the world from both audiences and critics due to its masterful acting and directing. Part of a new generation of directors who are recovering the challenging, cool and stylish films that were once synonymous of Korean cinema, debutant Yang Ik-june has delivered an impressive film telling a harsh story about an unpopular subject which is still very secret in Korea: domestic violence.
The director will be presenting his movie on April 2nd at 22:30 PM in REX cinema
