BAFF 2009’s opening film is like spending a relaxing holiday on a Japanese beach, a story that discovers the simple pleasures of life and the values of being lost contemplating the horizon. Taeko, a schoolteacher from the city, arrives at a small seaside inn in the south of Japan. Run by eccentric Yuji, frequented by Haruna and spiritually inspired by mysterious Sakura, the place operates like a small microcosm where cell phones don’t work, having a siesta is almost mandatory and life goes by between red bean ice creams, gymnastic exercises on the beach and lobster-based dinners. Some situations reveal the modern comedy of vacations and resorts typified by Jacques Tati's Monsieur Hulot films, while some shots posses the same clean visuals of Kitano’s Hana-Bi. Magic in its approach and with hilarious results, Megane is a charming film that will leave a permanent smile in your lips.

The director will be presenting her movie on March 30th at 20:00 PM in REX cinema
