Flower in the Pocket has finally raised awareness of one particular Malaysian cinema nouvelle vague in which independent productions and local filmmakers mutual interaction have established a model that will be followed up by future generations. A little and honest film about two kids who grow up motherless and neglected by their father. Shot with a great sense of humor, it perfectly combines absurdist comedy, gentle social satire and family misery.
