Kimura's first feature displays a talented beginner's eye and a promise of great things to come. Kimi lives with her boyfriend in a cold northern Japanese village on the Aomori coastline near the nuclear power station where he works. One day he becomes radioactively contaminated and leaves but the girl stays behind with boy's father. Nishiyama, who plays Kimi, sets the atmosphere of the film with her powerful performance and it has an austere vibe that is touching and realistic at the same time.
