Born in Beijing in 1963. He studied acting at the Central Academy of Drama. He began his career on the stage and in the cinema the same year he entered the Academy. A highly acclaimed and popular actor in his country, he became internationally known through his appearance in Zhang Yimou’s Red Sorghum.
