The BAFF 2009 Audience Award, sponsored by Singapore Airlines, has gone to the outstanding Japanese film LOVE EXPOSURE, by Sion Sono (Japan, 2008), a 4-hour tour de force which was only screened once in a memorable sold out screening. Presented in collaboration with the online magazine "Séptimo Vicio", this impressive film is an epic, modern and bizarre masterwork that once again confirms Sion Sono as a key figure of the Japanese contemporary cult cinema.
The Audience Award comes together with a flight ticket that Singapore Airlines will draw among all voters. Thanks to BAFF, Sion Sono and Singapore Airlines, the winner will travel to Japan.

The BAFF 2009 International Jury made up of Wong Tuck Cheong, board member of NETPAC; Naoko Ugigami, filmmaker; Adrià Monés, Teuve acquisitions manager and Philipp Engel, journalist and film critic, has decided to grant the BAFF 2009 Golden Durian Award, a 6,000 € prize courtesy of Casa Asia, to the South Korean feature film BREATHLESS, by Yang Ik-June.
By this decision, the Jury wishes to reward this impressive and very physical study of domestic violence in the South Korean underworld, which shows Yang Ik June´s brilliant debut. A versatile filmmaker, (director, main actor, script writer and producer) who has directed a first film that captivates the audience with its overwhelming energy and total honesty.
The Jury also gives two special mentions, one to the delightful Malaysian film SELL OUT, by Yeo Joon Han, (Malaysia, 2008), that made us burst out laughing. And to AGRARIAN UTOPIA, by the Thai Uruphong Raksasad (Thailand, 2008), for its unusual approach and his masterly direction.

The NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) is a world organisation founded in 1990 in New Delhi, with the support of UNESCO, and with the purpose of promoting and supporting Asian film in the world. It is based in Singapore and is made up of film critics, film directors, festival promoters, distributors and exhibitors. The BAFF 2009 NETPAC Jury was made up of Defne Gürsoy, journalist and researcher based in Paris, specialized in film and culture, Carlos Losilla, film critic and member of the editorial board of ”Cahiers du Cinema” in Spain and Wong Tuck Cheong, board member of NETPAC.
The NETPAC Award has been awarded to the film CLAUSTROPHOBIA, by Ivy Ho, (Hong Kong, 2008) for its mastery in telling a common love story and portraying aspects of modern Hong Kong life through an intelligent script, subtle mise-en-scène and stylized images.

The BAFF 2009 Jury of the D-Cinema section, has decided to grant the award to the best film shot in digital format to JAY by Francis Xavier Pasion (Philippines, 2008) for developing an original and sharp critic to the media which entertains and makes you think, going beyond its political and format boundaries. The Jury also wants to give a special mention to the film DAYTIME DRINKING by Noh Young-Seok, for his unquestionable talent creating a simply hilarious film. The BAFF 2009 D-Cinema Jury was made up of Sílvia Ferran, co-director of FEC – European Short-Film Festival; Dávid López, director of “Séptimo Vicio” online film magazine and of film festivals Retroback and Young Filmmakers from Granada, and Jordi Minguell, journalist and film critic of elpais.com and its blog “Alta Definición”.

spa.RK realeases ARBOL & FIBLA Bu san CD, a recreation of the imaginary soundtrack they created for the 10th aniversary of BAFF. Now both musicians have recaptured their compositions - originally created to be performed live - in a CD that will be released on September 2009, but that you can still get at BAFF stalls till last day of festival.

Today begins the whole program of BAFF 2009 in all the venues of the festival: cinema Rex, cinema Aribau Club 2 and the hall and auditorium of CCCB where take place all the sections of the festival: Competition,AS-Asian Selection, Focus on Southest Asia, Emergentes, Nippon Connection and Filipino Cult Movies. The program on "Cinema and video games" in Espai Cultural Caja Madrid begins on Monday, May 4th.

In the AS-Asian Selection section of the festival there are thirteen movies among which you will find a poker of Kings with the most recognized Asian directors of the moment: Takeshi Kitano (Achilles and The Tortoise), Hirokazu Kore-Eda (Still Walking), Kim Ki-duk (Dream) and Naomi Kawase. Nanayo, last movie of Naomi Kawase - that this year will receive the Carrose d'Or in Cannes - is screened today (cinema Rex, 20:30h). With the collaboration of Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones de Barcelona. And after Nanayo in the same venue, Takeshi Kitano's new movie (cinema Rex, 22:30h).

Good news! We can confirm that finally there will be a projection of the movie "Departures" in the BAFF 2009. The projection will on be Friday, May 8th at 20:00 PM in cinema Rex. We recomend you to buy the tickets in advance! (The capacity of the venus 580 people). We apologize for any trouble and for cancelling one screening. Golem will release the movie commercially soon.

Advaced tickets already available! The tickets for Rex and Aribau Club 2 are sold in servicaixaand those of the CCCB can be acquired in telentrada. The 5 and 10 pass tickets cannot be acquired in advance and the sales will start on May 1 in the informative stalls of the festival.

The BAFF will present in exclusive premiere in Spain, the last Oscar to Best foreign film: the Japanese film Departures, directed by Yojiro Takita. The movie, which also received ten awards of the Japanese Academy of cinema, follows the return to his natal village of a unemployed chelista who ends up by being employed at the local undertaker's establishment, to eventually discover that this slightly grateful work and of traditional rituals is his secret vocation. For the first time, BAFF will present the Netpac Price granted by Netpac (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema). Netpac is a world organization founded in 1990 on New Delhi with the support of the UNESCO which aim is to promote and to support the Asian cinema in the world. The BAFF joins to the list of events in which there is granted this prestigious award, that includes Berlin, Rotterdam, Cannes, Venice, Singapore or Pusan.

The 11th edition of the Barcelona Asian Film Festival-BAFF 2009, will take place from April 30th to May 10th.
The Audience Award, obtained with the votes of the audience who will chose its favorite movie between all the movies in the BAFF 2009. Singapore Airlines, sponsor of the prize of the public, will give away a trip to the country of the winning movie.
